Welcome to Mrs. Ambler's Classroom!

by Susan Ambler

Welcome!! Thank you very much for your interest in visiting my web page.   I will try to update it at different points throughout the year.

I am excited to be working with your child in third grade this year.  I am looking forward to a very successful year!  I will be implementing some fun and interactive hands-on activities in our different subject areas to help concepts become more concrete.  We are in our second year of our new Storytown Reading Series, and there are tons of activities that can be implemented into my Reading Blocks.  Guided Reading is also a crucial part of our Reading time.  Always remember to ask your child what stories or books we are working on, plus what skills we are focusing on each week.

Technology is becoming a bigger part of our learning activities, and there are some great websites that you can visit at home to supplement your child's learning.  A note was sent home earlier this year telling you about an excellent website that goes along with our reading series called Think Central.  You can log onto this at home and your child can practice our reading skills at home.  Printable worksheets are even available if you're interested!  More importantly are the fun learning games that your child can play.  Another favorite website for students is coolmathgames.com.  I can't even tell you how many math/logical thinking games are on this website.  It is fantastic!!

If you haven't had time to read through the Parent Handbook that I sent home during the first week of school, please know that there is LOTS of  information that you will find very helpful.

Please remember to take an active role in your children's education!  Read with them every night, help them study for tests, urge them to complete and return homework and notes on time, practice math facts, encourage them to become a responsible, well-mannered student, and talk with them about their day!  Also know that I am here to help you in any way I can.  Don't hesitate to contact me if you have a question about anything that goes on in our classroom.  The best times to reach me are from 11:05-11:40, or after school.  I am here most days until 4:00 or 4:30.  I look forward to meeting you and working with you and your child!
