Weather Announcements and School Closing Information
In the event severe weather necessitates the closing of school, the safety and welfare of all students will always be the first concern in making this decision. The biggest factor is the ability of the buses to transport students safely. Whenever regular school days are canceled due to emergencies or weather conditions, any decision to close school will be announced as early as possible via the AlertNow automated phone messaging system, as well as local radio stations including WGLC, WLPO - LaSalle, WOLI and WCMY - Ottawa, WGN - Chicago and 107.9 Spanish radio. If possible, we will post to the website as soon after 6:00 a.m. as possible.
Delayed Start or Early Dismissals
There are times when schools must start late or dismiss early due to the weather conditions. We sometimes start late due to fog or snow conditions or dismiss early if there is unseasonably hot weather or if a snow storm arrives during the school day in the winter. Radio stations will announce these events. We will complete an AlertNow message to inform families as well. It is the parents' responsibility to have a plan for children if this situation arises.
Following are some helpful things to know about the AlertNow automated phone messaging system:
* Caller ID will display the district office's number (815-539-7631) when an announcement is delivered.
* If you are not home or do not answer your phone, AlertNow should leave a message on your answering machine or voicemail.
* If the message stops playing for any reason or if you miss the beginning of the message, press any key from 1-9 and the message will replay from the beginning.
The system will only contact the parent/guardian of the household where the child primarily resides, including your home and cell numbers that you have provided your school offices. Please notify schools if phone numbers are changed or disconnected. All numbers are dialed simultaneously.
