Public Notice - Hearing Proposal to Waive School Holidays

Please Take Notice that the Board of Education of Mendota Community Consolidated School District #289 will hold a hearing on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in the District 289 Education Center Board Room, 1806 Guiles Avenue, Mendota, IL 61342, for the purpose of taking testimony from educators and parents regarding the proposal to hold school, schedule teachers’ institutes, conduct parent-teacher conferences, or conduct staff development (inservice) activities on the second Monday in October (Columbus Day), November 11 (Veterans’ Day) third Monday in January (the Birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.), February 12 (the Birthday of President Abraham Lincoln), and the first Monday in March (known as Casimir Pulaski’s birthday).
The persons honored by these holidays shall be recognized through instructional activities conducted on that day or, if the day is not used for student attendance, on the first school day preceding or following that day. In addition, a moment of silence will be taking to recognize Veterans of Foreign Wars on Veteran’s Day.
