District

One School of Thought

From the desk of our Superintendent – Dr. Kristen School

Thank you for welcoming me to Mendota School District #289 as the new Superintendent. It is a great privilege for me to join the Staff, Community, and Board of Education in upholding the many outstanding traditions of the Mendota Community.  My door is always open, and I welcome your comments and suggestions as we continue to move our students and our programs in a positive direction.

It is our desire to create a positive, welcoming, and open atmosphere both in the classrooms and in the district.  We need your involvement and support to accomplish this goal!  How can you help make this a reality for your child? Contact your child’s teachers, visit the classroom, volunteer if you are able – even it is only once in a while, ask questions, talk to your children and make sure they know how important a good education actually is, and last but not least, work together with your child’s teachers and administrators.  As the proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.”  Let’s work together to make Mendota Elementary District #289 an Awesome place for every child!

As you may be aware, the funding crisis in education has significantly impacted our district, and as a result has caused us to make some unfortunate but necessary cuts to our staff and to our overall programming. We remain mindful that while finances are our challenge, the academic growth of our students must be our focus and our mission. With that mission in mind, the Board of Education continues to maintain its focus to provide a quality, comprehensive, educational program for our students, while working within available resources.

Like all good schools, we constantly strive to help more students achieve at higher levels. To put these words into action, District 289 has created programs and educational opportunities to assist struggling students. Response to Intervention and Extended Day programs will continue for 2010-2011. We continue to study data from these programs to identify both successes as well as opportunities for improvement.

The Year Ahead…

Mendota Elementary School District #289 will strive to achieve success with every child through a strong partnership with parents, civic organizations, neighbors, school leaders and a dedicated and talented staff.  By working with the Mendota community, we will build upon our strengths, successes, and traditions as we face the uncertainty of the future of education in the State of Illinois.  On behalf of Mendota Elementary School District #289, I look forward to a great school year filled with success!
