Seeking Speakers for Northbrook Career Day: Deadline September 7th
Volunteers are being sought by Northbrook School, who will again host a career exploration day for middle school students this coming fall. At this event scheduled for the morning of Thursday, November 3rd, community members visit the school to speak to groups of students about their jobs. The students greatly enjoy this opportunity to explore occupations that interest them while hearing what local people can share about the world of work. At the last event two years ago over 40 occupations were represented. Volunteer speakers meet for about 20 minutes at a time with two to five different groups of students in classrooms that are supervised by school staff. Speakers receive guidelines to help them prepare for their presentations, and are encouraged to bring items from their work to share or demonstrate.
Speakers are needed for this November 3rd event; names of volunteers will be taken until September 7th so that speakers can then be contacted and scheduled. A variety of occupations are of interest, traditional and non- traditional and involving a range of training and skills. Any adult who would like to come talk to students about his or her job is encouraged to contact Beverly Richardson, Northbrook guidance counselor at 815-539-6237, or email at bricha@m289.lasall.k12.il.us
