What
has District #289 done to prevent the spread of flu in our schools
and community?
• Installed hand sanitizers in all classrooms and offices (Summer
2009)
• Installed paper towel dispensers in all restrooms that do not
require touching knobs or handles (summer 2009)
• Educated staff and students how to cover mouth and
nose
• Reminded staff and students to practice good hand
hygiene
• Staff is watching out for sick students and sending them to the
school health office for evaluation if they are feverish or showing
other flu related symptoms.
• Custodians are frequently cleaning hand rails, door knobs and
other surfaces that have frequent hand contact with sanitizing
cleaning agents.
• Sent out information with all students giving parents information
about the prevention and spread of influenza and will continue to
do so as needed
• School offices are keeping a daily log of symptoms common to
students who are absent.
• School health staff is in close contact with parents who have
children with flu-like symptoms.
• School health staff is in close contact with the LaSalle Health
Department to report cases of flu or to inquire about reported
cases of flu in the Mendota community.
Our schools will notify parents through our AlertNow phone message system if there is concern of an H1N1 outbreak.
